Data warehouse
By establishing a central data warehouse,
Genis has assured Slovenian public administration an integral overview
on the use and quality of data in public records.
Capable system for managing public records
The Data warehouse of the Ministry of the Interior is meant for controlling
daily administrative changes for managing registers. At the same time it
assures a large number of reports with statistical data or cross-section
data at certain time, time periods for deciding and functions for the foreseeing
and monitoring of movements. It is meant for managing the entire business
system of the public administration and includes tactical, strategic and
other functions for efficient managing of registers. Capabilities or reports
of the data warehouse are used by the Ministry of the Interior managers
for managing operation and other civil service users, such as the Ministry
of Public Administration, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international
institutions, such as Eurostat.
The Data warehouse of the Ministry of the Interior combines data from 10
registers and is updated on a daily basis. This system assures periodical
monthly and annual reports which are distributed to registration units;
it also enables the issuing of a report on demand. Besides managing the
work of administrative units, the data warehouse also serves, together
with Central Population Register, as a tool for searching and eliminating
errors in the transaction system composed of the registers.
Technical execution
The Data warehouse is built on the Oracle Warehouse Builder solution; query
on demand is processed on Oracle Discover platform. Distribution of data
is executed through Lotus Notes reports while data tables are in
Excel files for further local processing purposes. At the same time control
over use and monitoring of versions of standard reports or documents, which
there are nearly 300 in the system, is also assured.
