Upgrade of Register of Foreigners by Genis simplifies managing of procedures concerning the integration of aliens

KRANJ, 1. 12. 2009 – Many foreigners or citizens of third countries
face difficulties adapting to new living and social environments at the
beginning of their residence in the Republic of Slovenia. Because of this, the
Republic of Slovenia has adopted the Regulation on the Integration of
Foreigners which defines the terms and conditions for the integration of
foeigners – third country citizens who have a permit to reside in the
Republic of Slovenia – into cultural, economic and social life in
Slovenia. In order to execute the requirements of the new Regulation at the
Administration units clearly and efficiently, Genis has upgraded the Register
of Foreigners with new functionalities in this field.
"The upgrade
of the Register of Foreigners substantially simplifies additional
administrative tasks, which the new Regulation brings to the employees of the
Administrative units," says Lilijana Pretnar, the director of projects at
Genis. "On the other hand the information support of the Regulation enables
clear execution of the free education approval procedure which is important for
both the state, from the viewpoint of the control of the spending of budgetary
resources, as well as for the foreigners, upon adapting to life in Slovenia."
The upgrade of the Register of Foreigners consists of entry and
management of an application for attending a Slovenian language course, the
program of acquaintance with Slovenian history, cultural and constitutional
organization and passing the exam, including acceptance of their application.
Namely, with this Regulation, the Republic of Slovenia has enabled foreigners
with a residence permit to attend, without charge, the programs of learning the
Slovenian language, acquaintance with Slovenian history, cultural and
constitutional organization and passing of the Slovenian language exam. This
education consists of 60, 120 or 180 hour courses of Slovenian language and 30
hour course of acquaintance with Slovenian history, culture and constitutional
organization.
The Regulation on the integration of foreigners was
issued according to the fourth paragraph of the Article 82 of the Aliens Act
(official consolidated text Ztuj-1-UPB5). According to the Regulation the
following persons are entitled to free attendance of the mentioned courses and
exam:
1. Third country citizens residing in the Republic of
Slovenia based on a permanent residence permit and their family members that
have the permit for temporary stay in the Republic of Slovenia with the
intention of family reunion, regardless of the length of their stay in the
Republic of Slovenia and the validity of their permits.
2. Third
country citizens residing in the Republic of Slovenia for at least two years
based on a temporary residence permit who have the temporary residence permit
valid for at least one year and their family members who have a permit for a
temporary residence in the Republic of Slovenia with the intention of family
reunion, regardless of the length of their stay in the Republic of Slovenia and
the validity of their permits
3. Close family members of
foreigners from Articles 1 and 2 who reside in the Republic of Slovenia based
on the temporary stay permit with the intention of family reunion.
