Within the project of renewal of biometric passports, Genis has collaborated
upon the renewal of the web application for managing passport register and
system for capturing biometric data, such as photography, signature and
fingerprints. KRANJ, 30. 6. 2009 – Starting from the 29th of
June 2009, the Ministry of the Interior has started issuing new biometric
passports which use the most advanced fraud protection technologies, such as
counterfeiting or document alteration and terrorism. Slovenia is thus one of
the first countries in the world which managed to produce a passport in
accordance with the latest standards regarding the passports manufacture. The
entire procedure of issuing the new biometric passport takes place via passport
management register web application and High performance workplace, developed
by the company Genis. "Slovenia is one of the few countries in
the world which has sufficiently quality information infrastructure for fast
and safe issuing of biometric passports," said Lilijana Pretnar, the director
of information projects in the company Genis. The execution of advanced public
administration services, such as biometric passport issuing, are enabled by the
quality backend information systems, for instance Passport Register, ID
Register, Population Register, Citizenship Register, Permanent Population
Register, Aliens Register and Central Population Register, which were developed
for the Slovenian public use exactly by the company Genis. As
predicted by Genis, the obtaining of the new biometric passport will not
require lengthy wait in the queues at the Administration Units, since the
entire procedure of acceptance of applications is conducted via High
Performance Workplace. This combination of software and hardware allows that
the entire application for issuing the new biometric passport is conducted in
one place. Namely, the entire capture of data needed for issuing such a
document, from national registers data to digital photography, signature and
fingerprints is conducted securely with the help of a single web application.
"We are proud to have been able to cooperate in such an up-to-date
information project, and on the other hand we are aware that there are really
very few public administration information solutions providers in Europe and
the world, which have similar knowledge and experiences as Genis," also said
Pretnar. The entire procedure, from the acceptance of the
application to the manufacturing and issuing of the biometric passport is
automated and includes 25 web services. By these services, the passport records
are linked with the personal records in the Population Register and Permanent
Population Register, police records, Interpol, The Post of Slovenia and
financial accounting packets for paying taxes. The application is also linked
with the e-Photographer system by Genis, which is intended for the transfer of
digital photographs from the authorized photographers to the administration
unit where the citizen submits the application for the new biometric passport.
Due to safety reasons, the entire procedure is conducted at the main server
system to which the users at the administration units can access through the
web application by Genis. More information on the new
biometric passports is available on web page: h
